If you are planning a DIY wedding, I recommend downloading the free Bridebook wedding planning App. It is easy to use and can help with all your ‘Wedmin’ from organising your budget and wedding suppliers to sorting out your wedding guest list and gift list. You can also contact suppliers directly through the app or allocate wedding tasks to friends and family. Download the app via Apple’s App store or Google Play, add your venue of choice Shoreditch Studios or Kachette then you can get planning. Check our Q&A with Bridebook’s Bethany Wright.

Confetti is an industry-leading UK wedding blog and wedding magazine that has been around since 1999. As well as the usual real weddings, supplier listings and wedding inspiration, Confetti also has a shop with thousands of personalised gifts for sale. There are also pages dedicated to menswear and grooms wear which is surprisingly hard to find on most wedding websites. I also recommend spending time on their comprehensive Q&A’s page which is searchable by tags. Confetti is owned by Ocean Media Group who also host London Bridal Fashion Week and The National Wedding Show.

The English Wedding Blog’s founder Claire Guild is based in England’s picturesque Lake District. Established in 2009, EWB has maintained its position as one of the UK’s most popular wedding blogs focusing primarily on regional weddings. I like the blog’s simplistic design and relaxed ‘all couples welcome’ attitude which is reflected in their diverse range of featured weddings. For such a popular wedding blog with a strong social following, none of the blog posts or social feeds read like a sales pitch which is refreshing. It’s easy to see why couples keep coming back to The English Wedding Blog.

The Gay Wedding Blog are relative newcomers on the scene. After noticing a hole in the UK wedding blog market, wedding photographer Eva decided to create a space for LGBTQ+ wedding inspiration which breaks stereotypes and present gay weddings that are modern, elegant, original and fun. Eva’s blog has already started to build a strong social presence and will no doubt be on everyone’s radar soon.

Marry Me Ink does what it says on the label, if you have tattoos and want to show them off on your wedding day then you will find some inspiration here. Marry Me Ink is a personal blog, reflecting the taste of its founder Rachel (pictured) who is obsessed with ‘bride with tats’ and ‘alternative couples.’ LQBTQ+ weddings and themed weddings also get covered on the blog too which is great. Marry Me Ink has slowed down content in recent months, choosing quality over quantity and only sharing one real wedding a month.

DIVERSITY

For too long there has been a real lack of representation of LGBTQ, black, Asian or other ethnic groups in UK wedding blogs. Thankfully several blogs on this list have made a point of discussing diversity in their feature content and have made an effort to represent all couples in their real wedding posts. Love My Dress, Rock N Roll Bride, Rock My Wedding and Bridebook are among the best and newcomers LGBTQ Equality Weddings also have their finger on the pulse and plan to roll out a wedding blog of their own soon. Secret Wedding Blog is another must-read wedding blog with great coverage of multicultural and interfaith weddings.

As you can see from this list, ‘brides’ are still prominent in the names and marketing of most UK wedding blogs but this is changing and there’s likely to be newcomers on the circuit soon with an even greater focus on diversity and inclusiveness for all couples.

VEGANISM

This may come as no surprise to Londoners. Vegan and organic wedding menus are on trend in most London wedding blogs this year. Further reading via The Knot, Confetti and Wedding Wire. All of Shoreditch London’s preferred catering suppliers offer vegetarian, vegan or organic menus, vegan cakes and can also cater for guests with dietary restrictions or food allergies. According to The Economist and Forbes, veganism is booming, even in the States!

SUSTAINABILITY

Environmentally conscious couples are also trending on wedding blogs offering endless ideas to help make your wedding more sustainable. Biodegradable confetti is always an easy and responsible choice but now there are guides to ‘ethical’ wedding-wear, tips on choosing seasonal and local flowers, hiring plants instead of cut flowers, plastic-free wedding receptions, handmade wedding favours or charitable donations as wedding gifts, the list goes on. Further reading via Hitched, The Good Trade and Rock My Wedding’s guide to a low waste wedding.

HEALTH

Did you know that getting married can improve you and your partner’s health? There is a vast amount of case studies, medical research papers and academic articles suggesting that happy marriages promote health and longevity for couples. Why is it then that wedding planning is so stressful for many couples? Financial concerns, wed-min and family feuds are common wedding planning stressors. Another important stress factor that is often left out of wedding advice articles is that couples often feel pressure for their wedding day to be perfect.
